About

A bit about me.

I started playing drums when I was nine.

I got seriously into music as a teenager, teaching myself to play along to bands like Slipknot, Dream Theater, Tool, The Faceless and Necrophagist by ear. I've always been drawn to music with an edge, but I've never wanted to stay in one particular corner of it.

I later discovered jazz through sixth form and went on to study jazz at university in Cornwall, graduating with a first-class BA. Studying gave me a much deeper understanding of the instrument and pushed my playing into areas I wouldn't have reached on my own.

I've played in various bands locally and have spent years exploring different styles, techniques and ways of approaching the drums.

A big part of that has been figuring out how to practice effectively. I'm interested in what actually works, how to identify what's holding a player back and how to get through difficult problems without wasting time.

That's a big part of why I enjoy teaching. I like taking something that a player is struggling with, figuring out what's getting in the way and finding an efficient way through it.

I started teaching in 2024 and have since taught at the Dorset Drum Festival, including a full clinic on the second stage at the 2025 festival.
